The (irritating) case of the loaf of challah

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Lest there be any confusion from my cheery post below, trips to/from school are not always so, well, cheery. In the afternoons, especially, Z and A can be tired and cranky, and though they’re just fine at school or Elena’s, they tend to save their worst (or most grating) behavior for me. Today, for example, they took turns crying or whining the entire drive home, and the source of their unhappiness was a loaf of challah bread we brought from school. Zoe was upset that Avery wouldn’t let go of the bag (“She’s squishing it!”), Avery was upset she couldn’t get the bag open (“Wah!”), and both girls were upset that I wouldn’t let them have any bread before dinner. By the time I pulled into our driveway I was about ready to throw the challah out the window!

(The only good thing about the bread: It made a fabulous french toast! And when it came time to sit down and enjoy it for dinner, the girls were in good moods again.)

Also thankful for…

Monday, January 31st, 2011

As in days past, I got in the car this morning and said what I was thankful for. Then Zoe piped up from the backseat: “I’m thankful that we had two fun family days together.” Talk about a sweet way to start a Monday!
