Q went to a concert tonight, and Zoe was very interested in where he was. Here’s the conversation that just occurred.
Z: “Is Daddy on his way home?”
M: “No, Daddy’s at a concert. He’ll be home later.”
Z: “A concert?”
M: “Yes. That’s when you go and watch people sing.”
Z: “Oh. Is it for boys?”
M: “It’s for girls and boys.”
Z: “Oh, wow! Is it for Zoe?”
M: “Well, it could be. But Daddy went with a friend.”
Z: “Oh, wow. Okay!”
When reading press on the new Harry Potter movie recently, I came across a great quote from Daniel Radcliffe, the actor who plays Harry.
It’s been interesting for me because a lot of people on the Potter set have had kids recently, and [what a] difference it’s made in their lives. They are so much more tired than they were before, but they’re a lot happier. The joy in these people…. They have been changed in a kind of amazing way.
The quote made me smile, and convinced me that this guy is quite smart and perceptive for a 19-year-old. Tired but happy – yes, that’s a pretty perfect way to summarize how it feels being a parent!
