“It will be fine, they’re good girls”

I shared this on Facebook, but I had an interesting experience when out to eat the other night. In the middle of dinner,  Zoe and Avery asked if they could go the bathroom (which was literally next to our table) on their own – and, in classic fashion, Q said yes and I said no. I started telling Q that they were too little to go without one of us and that Avery wasn’t behaving the best to begin with when the woman at the table next to us looked up to me and said, “It will be fine, they’re good girls.”

I was totally taken aback: Not because I was offended by her eavesdropping and butting in, but because her words felt so powerful and true. And because I believe in things like this, I didn’t think her words were really about the kids going to the bathroom. Her comment felt bigger than that - a cosmic reminder that I need to stress less, let go more, and accept that my kids are going to be (and already are) a-0kay.

“I think that was a sign from the universe,” I whispered to Q immediately after – as the girls headed to the bathroom. And yes, they were just fine.
