Zoe’s first post

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

Zoe is now getting jealous of Daddy typing. So, I thought I would give her a chance to write her first post on her own. Here it is:

Someday she’ll have to tell us what it all means.

She keeps on truckin’

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

Zoe’s cold is still with her, but she keeps on with her busy schedule without missing a beat. This past week she got to go see her friend Ari (if you don’t remember, Ari was the one that took the great no-head pictures of his dad Elan and me.) It also happened to be Elan’s birthday party that night. Then today, after watching the Badger win with Daddy, she got to see her Uncle Dan’s new apartment. And with all of this, she only really cried when she got hungry. Of course it is now a cute sultry kind of cry because her voice is a bit hoarse. Here are some fun pictures from today…

Second-week report card

Friday, March 9th, 2007

Zoe has had four full days at daycare now, and she seems to be adjusting quite well. She eats and naps around the same time every day (she certainly likes to maintain a routine!), and Elena today commented that she’s been smiling and giggling a lot. She did wind up with a little cold this week (it can’t be a coincidence that her first illness followed her first few days at daycare), but it seems to be getting better.

As for Mom… well, I think I’ve adjusted pretty well also. Jumping back into things at work was easier than I thought, as was actually dropping off Zoe each morning. (It helps that she’s usually smiling when I leave her.) I must admit, though, that I’m pretty wiped out by the end of the day. I wish I had more energy when I pick Zoe up – but I’m also grateful that she seems to enjoy cuddling and watching 90210 re-runs with me when we get home!

My how big she is getting

Wednesday, March 7th, 2007

We promised to show her growth, but keep forgetting. We did a comparison of 4 days old and 100 days later!

Two girls out and about

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

It’s been deliciously sunny and warm here the past few days, and Zoe and I have been taking advantage of the nice weather. Yesterday (after our morning work-out at the mall), we strolled over to the neighborhood park and watched the big kids play. After a quick bite at a coffee shop around the corner, Zoe helped me do some gardening in the front yard. (Green thumbs we are not, but we tried our best!) Today, we met our friends Polly and Miles – who is four days older than Zoe – for coffee and a little walk on 24th St., a cute strip of restaurants and shops not far from our neighborhood. Zoe then accompanied me to my hair-cut appointment, and we are now relaxing and waiting for her dad to come home. It’s supposed to be warm and sunny (75 degrees!) again this weekend, so I’m sure we’ll do some more fun outside activities then…

We love San Francisco when it’s like this!

Trying to talk

Zoe has been doing lots of her own talking these days. Here she is in one of her more talkative moods.

Sleepyhead

Monday, March 5th, 2007

One night about two weeks ago (just after our return home from Madison), Zoe slept right through her middle-of-the-night feeding. This had already happened occasionally, so we didn’t think much of it – until it happened again the next night and the next night and the next night… Since it’s still happening, I’m confident to say that Zoe’s new sleep schedule appears to be 9 PM – 6:30 AM or so. And I’ve got tell you: we love it! (Am I nostalgic about getting up with her in the middle of the night? Uh, no!) Let’s hope she continues the pattern…

More weekend fun

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Yesterday ended up being a pretty full day. After playing with Daddy, Zoe got to visit Amy, Doug, and Jack. Here she is with papa Doug:

Then we took a stroller ride around the area since it was so nice out:

We stopped to get something to eat, but Zoe was more interested in her bear:

Finally, she stopped playing with the bear and decided to eat something:

And to end the day, she got a visit from Uncle Dan and Jenny:

I hope Sunday is just as fun!

Saturday and Sunday are always fun days since Zoe gets to spend the whole day with both mommy AND daddy. Here are few shots from this morning’s fun time…

I like to play…ding!

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

What can I say, she loves to play. She gets very smiley and loves to grab her little bumble bee! I could not decide which video I liked better, so I put them all up. Let me know what you think.

First-day report card

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

As you can probably detect from the tone of my post below, I’ve been feeling a little nervous/anxious/sad about starting work and putting Zoe in daycare. The thought of leaving Zoe was difficult for me – as was the thought of placing her in the care of someone else. Well, I’m happy to report that things went really well today: both of us survived – and even enjoyed! – our first day apart. According to Elena, Zoe’s babysitter, Zoe spent most of her day eating, napping and taking in her surroundings with those big eyes of hers! (Zoe even mimicked her home schedule by eating at 11 AM and 3 PM.) Elena said she barely cried or fussed, and Zoe certainly did seem content when I picked her up. (She didn’t even seem that excited to see me - although I tried not to take that personally.) I know it will never be easy to part with her, but I am comforted that Zoe seems happy with her new environment!
