Avery at the amusement park

Monday, March 31st, 2014

Though brave, Avery isn’t tall enough to go on all the rides that she and her dad can – so the two of us typically spend a lot of time together when we’re at the amusement park. Below are a few pics I took of her while Zoe and Q were off on the rollercoasters the other day; my favorite is the selfie that we took on (the very low-key) pumpkin ride.

My fearless girls

Sunday, March 30th, 2014

Who’s not afraid of roller coasters? Zoe and Avery, who happily rode the Psycho Mouse – with their hands up most of the ride – on Saturday.

Another Opening Day

Saturday, March 29th, 2014

Tradition dictates that we go to Great America on Opening Day – so we headed to the amusement park  down south this morning. It was rainy and cool this year (unlike last), but the girls didn’t mind at all!

Girl’s first Little League game

Friday, March 28th, 2014

Not long ago, Q and I took the girls to nearby Alameda, to see a friend’s son play Little League. The girls enjoyed watching the game (their first Little League one), but the big hits were the playground and popsicles.

“You didn’t even have to tell me”

Friday, March 28th, 2014

After Avery thanked me for something recently, I thanked her for being polite. “You didn’t even have to tell me to say ‘thank you,'” she replied. “I already knew it. I’m a big girl, and I know all the things grown-ups say.” She paused and then continued, “Well, not all – but some.”

Shopping and dancing

Thursday, March 27th, 2014

Before our recent Star Gala event, Q wanted to buy some nice shoes. We took the girls shopping with us, and here’s  a 10-second clip of how Avery entertained herself in the men’s shoe department.

Avery’s green ribbon

Wednesday, March 26th, 2014

Inspired by our last trip to Santa Cruz, where we had such a fun time in the pool, Q and I decided to start up swim classes for the girls again; we’ve been going every Friday afternoon since late Jan. Zoe already knows how to swim under water, do many of the strokes, etc., but Avery – despite having taken classes when she was smaller – is still a beginner. We were super excited and proud, then, when she was given a ribbon during her last class: The green ribbon means she’s officially out of the beginners’ (rainbow) class and working her way towards the more advanced blue one. Yea!

Come on, Mom!

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014

On Sunday morning, Angela and I had plans to run out to Noe Valley and do a little shopping. I had gently told Zoe that the two of us wanted some “grown-up” time, but then she presented me with the hand-written note below. How could I not let her come after that??

A visit from Angela

Monday, March 24th, 2014

Angela came to town on Friday and, after going to Zoe’s school for a “special friend” day, she wound up spending the weekend with  us. The girls were thrilled!

Zoe the photographer (or not)

Saturday, March 22nd, 2014

A few weekends ago, Q and I went to the Star Gala, the preschool’s big (and fun) fundraising event. We were hoping for a nice picture before we left and had Zoe give our camera a try. The results weren’t perfect – but are good for a smile.

More from the Purim Carnival

Friday, March 21st, 2014

As mentioned, last Sunday was such a fun day for the family. Here’s another batch of pics.

Bubbles, part II

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

A few short videos of the girls (and a few of their friends) in action. I love Zoe’s expression in the second one – she may act adult-like at times, but she’s still very much a little kid!

Bubbles!

Wednesday, March 19th, 2014

Avery’s school hosted its annual Purim carnival on Sunday – and what a day it was! We’ve gone the last five years, but this year’s event was more elaborate and fun than any other – in large part because it featured bubbles. Lots and lots of bubbles…

Let it Go, Avery style

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

Last week, when Avery was dressed up as Elsa, she gave a little performance for her dad. Here she is singing (what else?) “Let it Go.” (My favorites are the :44 and 1:05 marks.)

St. Patty’s Day

Monday, March 17th, 2014

We don’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day – but Zoe’s teacher does! Check out what her classroom looked like when we walked in this morning… (Both girls, needless to say, were thrilled.)
