Balloons for Zoe

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

I had a big event at work yesterday, and Zoe was the beneficiary: she got to keep a big bunch of leftover balloons. The balloons weren’t pink (Stanford’s colors, after all, are cardinal red and white), but she still had fun carrying them around the house.

Our budding photographer

Friday, March 6th, 2009

As many of you know, Zoe is a big fan of the camera (if you couldn’t tell, check out all the pictures of Zoe on this site!) She also loves to snap a few pictures every now and then. Well today I checked the camera for new pictures to find over 20 self portraits! I’ll put a few up here for you guys to see…could this be a career path?

New Robe

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

Zoe got a new robe a while ago, but is just now ready to wear it. After her bath yesterday she put it on and looked very cute. Of course getting 2 pictures of Zoe at the same time tends to be a bit difficult these days. The life of a 2 year old…always on the go.

My girls

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Sat. night was a rough one at our house. Zoe, who was starting to come down with her little bug, had a terrible night: like a newborn, she would sleep for an hour or two and then wake up crying or screaming. And then it would take another hour or so to get her back to sleep…

Sun. morning found me bleary-eyed and more than a little grumpy, but things took a turn for the better when Zoe took a long nap while snuggled up against me on the couch. There was a several-minute stretch were I could feel both the baby kicking and Zoe’s little body twitching in her sleep – and I couldn’t help but smile. I have yet to feel terribly bonded to Poppy (I’m not worried, though – it was the same with “Sesame”), but I definitely felt a connection at that moment. And as I lay there with my girls, I very much felt like… a mom.

Zoe’s sick day

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Thanks to another pesky flu-bug, Zoe had to call in sick to Elena’s today. I stayed home with her and am happy to report that she was a good little patient – and appears to be feeling better. She spent most of the morning snuggled in bed, watching favorite shows, and later felt well enough to color and play with Play-Doh. (Amazingly, I even got a lot of work done!) Here’s hoping she’ll be as good as new by tomorrow.

Daddy’s girl

Friday, February 27th, 2009

Q just got home from work, and when Zoe saw him, she yelled “yea, yea!” over and over and jumped up and down throughout the kitchen. It was a terribly cute sight, and I’m sure it made Q feel pretty good!

Little translator

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Elena is from Chile, so Zoe has picked up numerous Spanish words throughout her time at daycare. Her use of Spanish doesn’t surprise me anymore, but I was impressed to discover that she can translate, too. This morning, as we were getting ready, she pointed down and said, “zapatos!” “Right,” I said. “And what’s another word for zapatos?” “Shoes!” she said with a big smile. Curious whether she could do English-to-Spanish as well, I picked another random word and asked, “Do you know how to say ‘moon’ in Spanish?” “Luna!” she said – and I just had to reward her with a big squeeze.

Fun with G&G

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Zoe’s Grandma and Grandpa left yesterday morning – but not before spending lots of bonding time with her. On their itinerary these past few days: a lot of playing, tickling, walking, baking and, of course, picture-taking. Here are some of the best pics from their trip.

(Thanks for coming, guys. Zoe misses you!)

Benefits of storytime!

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

Zoe has become a big fan of my nighttime stories. Her favorite seem to be the adventures of Princess and Panda which, oddly enough, are a lot like the adventures of Zoe. In last night’s story Princess and Panda went to bed and woke up early. Instead of coming in and waking up Mommy and Daddy, they stayed in bed and played with their toys until Mommy and Daddy came to get them…Well, this morning instead of coming in and waking us up, Zoe was sitting on her bed playing with her stuffed animals! Nothing like the power of a good story.
