This time around, they were amazing on our outbound flight (I even got to read a magazine &#8211; a real luxury for anyone traveling with small children), but the inbound flight: not so much. It wasn&#8217;t really the kids&#8217; fault: We had a relatively late flight home, and we wound up being slightly delayed (by those big snowflakes I was just raving about), so by the time we were in the air it was way, <em>way<\/em> past their bedtime. Poor Avery wound up melting down at one point (and, to add to our problems, turbulence prevented me from standing up and rocking\/soothing her), and an overstimulated Zoe, though well-behaved, was super wired and not willing to sleep until well into our flight. Needless to say, it was a pretty exhausting trip.<\/p>\n<p>But yet, our cab ride home, when I sat in between the girls in the backseat, was a different story. As late as it was, the girls were both awake and wide-eyed &#8211; and shortly after I started holding Zoe&#8217;s hand, Avery reached out to hold my other one.
