Take this exchange from the other night, when I was talking to Zoe about a character in a new book we just read:<\/p>\n<p>M: &#8220;The mommy likes everything about her baby &#8211; just like I like everything about you.&#8221;<br \/>\nZ: &#8220;Well, I don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t like everything about you.&#8221;<br \/>\nM: &#8220;You don&#8217;t? What don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t you like?&#8221;<br \/>\nZ: &#8220;Um&#8230; your lips and your mouth. But I like everything else.&#8221;<br \/>\nM: &#8220;What&#8217;s wrong with my lips and mouth?&#8221;<br \/>\nZ, laughing: &#8220;They&#8217;re disgusting.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Zoe obviously didn&#8217;t know what she was saying &#8211; so I was hardly insulted &#8211; but I wasn&#8217;t thrilled that she picked up that word. And later I found out who to blame: one of her new best buddies in class.
