Pop! Wow!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Avery was sick again this week:\u00c2\u00a0Her strep cleared but a few days after her last dose of antibiotic, she came down with a fever again. She has spent <em>a lot<\/em> of time at home these past few weeks (luckily she&#8217;s a good patient) but in between bouts of illnesses she got to take a field trip to the Lawrence Hall of Science at Berkeley and participate in a Fizz!\u00c2\u00a0Pop! Wow! worshop there.\u00c2\u00a0As described in the school newsletter:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;After a full and rich unit on solids, liquids, and gases, students had the chance to combine a variety of solids and liquids,&#8221; says teacher Rachel Klein.\u00c2\u00a0During the\u00c2\u00a0workshop, second graders experimented with green chalk, beans, rice, baking soda, cranberry juice, lemon juice, water, and vinegar to see which ones fizzed and bubbled. &#8220;They tested their results using four of their five senses (no tasting!)&#8221; adds Ms. Klein. &#8220;We also blew up a balloon with the gas we created by mixing vinegar and baking soda.&#8221; The workshop was a fizzy and foamy\u00e2\u20ac\u201dyes, effervescent\u00e2\u20ac\u201dconclusion to this science unit!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Glad she didn&#8217;t miss it.<\/p>\n<p>-M<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-24463\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zoe.browdy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Avery-and-Ethan-on-field-trip.jpg\" alt=\"avery-and-ethan-on-field-trip\" width=\"398\" height=\"306\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.zoe.browdy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Avery-and-Ethan-on-field-trip.jpg 398w, http:\/\/www.zoe.browdy.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/Avery-and-Ethan-on-field-trip-300x231.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 398px) 100vw, 398px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Avery was sick again this week:\u00c2\u00a0Her strep cleared but a few days after her last dose of antibiotic, she came down with a fever again.
