{"id":16351,"date":"2013-04-24T12:11:42","date_gmt":"2013-04-24T20:11:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zoe.browdy.net\/?p=16351"},"modified":"2013-04-24T15:35:07","modified_gmt":"2013-04-24T23:35:07","slug":"a-good-enough-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.zoe.browdy.net\/?p=16351","title":{"rendered":"A good enough life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night I came across an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/why-women-should-embrace-a-good-enough-life\/2013\/04\/18\/4b2b086c-a5db-11e2-a8e2-5b98cb59187f_story.html?wpisrc=emailtoafriend\">article<\/a> on working moms, which promotes the idea that a mother&#8217;s life doesn&#8217;t have to be &#8220;perfect&#8221; but instead &#8220;good enough.&#8221; It&#8217;s a great read &#8211; I completely agree with the writer&#8217;s sentiments &#8211; but it was the ending that got to me.\u00c2\u00a0Not only does it remind me of Zoe (I can totally see her doing this), but it&#8217;s the\u00c2\u00a0perfect reminder that kids don&#8217;t need &#8220;perfect:&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8230;My daughter came home from school one day and announced that she\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d had the best day of her life. When I asked what had happened, she said it was just an ordinary day. I pressed \u00e2\u20ac\u201d certainly something different must have occurred? She shook her head. Intrigued, I called her first-grade teachers and asked if anything special had happened in class. No, they repeated, it was just an ordinary day.<\/p>\n<p>It took a minute or two to sink in. All this effort to create the big moments that working mothers everywhere strive to produce, all the bells and whistles I was madly trying to clang, and my daughter said the best day of her life had been an ordinary day.
